Featured Shop: Prissy Designs

When we first sat down with the owner, Laura Page, of Prissy Designs - we already knew we were fans. By all means, our littles are constantly carrying around the Blankie Bundle (of course we are partial to the cupcake print!) - it is perfect for your little to carry around their essentials. Instead of mom shoving everything in their diaper bag, as if it isn't already overflowing, you can stash a blankie, their lovie stuffed animal, sippy cup and it even has a pocket for a pacifier. How genius is that? We know - too bad we didn't think of it! Made of 100% cotton and the cutest fabrics for only $18 - it is a sure steal! Not ready for the Blankie Bundle well check out the All-in-One Diaper Clutch - another product simplifying us mommas lives!

Tell us a little bit about you! The name behind the face of Prissy Designs?

My name is Laura and I am a mother to 3 energetic kids, Hunter (8), Laynee (3) and Mya (2).  I currently work full time during the day and work on Prissy Designs in my free time after the kiddos go to bed.  I created Prissy Designs as an outlet for all the crafty projects I loved doing.  I love crafts of all kinds I make jewelry, crochet blankets and of course sew.

I originally started with hair accessories, kids jewelry, clothing and crochet baby blankets but after about a year it turned into more than that when I designed and created the All-In-One Diaper Clutch.  I realized that this product was going to be my main focus so I cleaned up my site and offered just the clutch in different patterns.

We caught a peek of your now famous diaper clutch on Bethenny Getting Married. How exciting was that for you?

I sent Bethenny a diaper clutch before she had her baby and always watched her show hoping for just a glimpse of it.  The funny thing is I got so wrapped up in watching her show that night I didn’t even think about it until they were in the nursery.  I found myself looking for all my fellow mompreneur’s products as I have become very good at spotting them. At that moment I just happened to look on the corner of the screen at the dresser and spotted my clutch! Of course I yelled but it happened so fast that I stayed up late to watch the episode again just to make sure.  It was a really big moment for me I was really excited knowing that she had it in her nursery.  It was also a big moment that my son could see it on tv and know exactly what it was he was very excited and proud.

When it comes to choosing fabrics, what do you keep in mind? Is there a certain "look" that you go for?

I try to base my fabrics on the mothers that I am creating the clutches for.  I am a mom that never really liked using diaper bags in baby patterns or colors I wanted to be able to keep my style so I wanted something that looked like a purse not a diaper bag.  I just walk around fabric stores and look at fabrics I know what I want when I see it, it could be a pattern or color that catches my eye.  I do get requests for certain custom patterns so I am still in a position that I can make a custom bag to make a customer happy.

Has sewing something you have always loved to do? How long have you been sewing?

I learned sewing in Jr. High School but didn’t really start sewing until 4 years ago.  I was a little rusty at it I took my mom’s sewing machine took out the manual and started reading.  Then I just taught myself how to start sewing again and made up all my own patterns.  I love sewing it actually relaxes me sometimes after a bad day I can just go grab some fabric and make something great.

What's up next for Prissy Designs?

I just created a new product called the Blankie Bundle – Blankie Carrier for Kids that has been added to my site.  I am also working on getting more PR for my company to boost business therefore I am looking for a backup seamstress that can help out with the sewing so I can devote more time to running my company.   And maybe one day see every celebrity mom carrying my diaper clutch!

SUUU-Per OsCAAAR & Cutie Pa Tutus too!

By Jenny Ford, Contributing Writer

Faster than a speeding tricycle, more powerful than Thomas the Train, and able to leap tall stuffed animals in a single bound.  It’s SUUU-Per OsCAAAAR!  I’m completely infatuated with super hero stuff.  After living this long with two girls I guess it’s kinda the only thing I know (aside from cars and sports – booooring by my standards).  So I’m completely immersing my boy into becoming a super hero, he will totally thank me later when he’s saving a beautiful woman from a giant beast or scaling buildings on his hands and feet.

He has no clue, let’s face it.  The boy is 9 months old.  But this year for Halloween, like it or not, he's going to be SU-Per OsCAAAAR!  I’m also going to be planning a superhero 1st birthday party for him as well (honestly, his party is all about me anyway).

How adorable is my little caped crusader in his Cutie PaTutus  (@Cutiepatutus) Super Hero cape & Super Hero outfit?  (I know, I’m completely partial)  When I opened the package I flipped out over how cute (and full of quality) this satiny cape is.  Oscar instantly came to the rescue and saved me from the tissue paper it was wrapped in, Phew, close call.  So of course, while he was sitting and playing quietly on the floor, I rushed to put it on him.  OOOOOOOOMGosh!   I melted, as he smiled and then he scooted off to save a kitty from a tree.  It was an instant hit.

I know, maybe he’s not old enough to completely enjoy the affects of his Super Hero cape…yet (I will be pulling that baby out for the special occasions like Halloween and his birthday for now), so in the meantime, I’ve hung a special hook by his door to display it.  And who knows, maybe he crawls out of his crib in the middle of the night donning his new cape, saving stuffed animals and over-turned toy cars.  I can only believe he does, he is my baby boy by day and SUUU-Per OsCAAAAR whenever duty calls!!

Get your PERSONALIZED Cutie PaTutu’s Super Hero cape (or any of the amazing Super Hero clothing collection – tee shirts, masks, one pieces & boxers) for your brave little man (or girl too) for Halloween or maybe their birthday party.  I can guarantee it will be worn much more than just the special occasions.

Cutie Pa Tutus is giving you Super Moms & Dads (and grandparents, aunties & uncles…etc) a 20% off discount with the code “SPRINKLES” until September 30.  Get your order in NOW! And did I tell you that this cape can be reversed to make a magicians cape, TU TU cute (sorry for the pun)!  I wonder if he can make his dirty diapers disappear?

Order quickly, since these babies are personalized one-by-one and can take 5 to 7 days to create.

Etsy Featured Designer: Heather of Olive & Ollie plus a giveaway!

"inspired goods made by hand for your little one"

We still recall the day we came across olive & ollie on Etsy - it was a dream come true! Handmade, quality clothing & uber-cute finds for our littles. We immediately fell in love even more when Heather, the owner, sent us some fabulous goodies. The attention to detail and quality is beyond perfection. olive & ollie is definitely a shop you will began a love affair with -- beautiful clothes for stylish littles. Lucky for us we sat down with Heather to chat and get to know everything about her sweet little shop.

Tell us about Olive & Ollie. What inspired the name?

Olive and Ollie began very simply, and I never dreamt that it would turn into a real business. I started making bibs and appliquéd shirts for my son who was born in 2006, because I couldn’t find a lot of things on the market for him that I liked. Friends liked my work, and soon people started asking me to make things for them as well.

Olive and Ollie is named after two women in my family, my great-grandmother Olive, and my great-great-aunt Ollie. Both were strong, independent women who made all sorts of things by hand, and shared my belief that handmade is best. In fact, I still have the baby quilt my aunt Ollie made for me over 30 years ago, when she was in her 70s.

How long have you been sewing? What made you decide to start your adorable shop on Etsy?

I’ve been sewing on and off since junior high, which was way too long ago to admit! Honestly, I guess about 20 years or so, which makes me sound really old, doesn’t it?!

I signed up on etsy.com to open a shop in May 2007, but it wasn’t until April of the following year that I listed anything. By that time I now had a toddler and a newborn, and I knew I didn’t want to go back to my day job, so I went full steam ahead with my little endeavor. I would design and sew while my babies napped, but the vast majority of my work was done at night after they were in bed. And I’ve been working that way since then. It’s sometimes tough to work so many late nights, but it allows me to be home with my babies, and that is priceless and totally worth the lack of sleep.

Has this become a full time job or do you still consider it a hobby as so many do when they sew?

This has definitely become a full time job for me, and I’m really excited about the possible directions I could take this business in. I’m so lucky that I get to do what I love and make a living from it.

What's up next for O&O? We are ready for a sweet handmade boutique we can visit! We just can't get enough :)

Thank you so much! A handmade boutique would be great, and may happen some day when my kids are older. For now, I’m working on new designs and also trying my hand at some pattern making as well. I’m also introducing modern quilts for babies and toddlers in my shop, so keep an eye out for those as well!
